Brayden's very first fever!

Well....it has been 20 1/2 months without a fever or a doctors visit other than a well baby check, but that all changed Monday morning.

Sunday, Brayden was SO very fussy and that is so unlike him. He is hardly ever fussy and nothing satisfied him.  He did not want to eat much of anything and I thought maybe he had a bellyache. Monday morning Brayden woke up at 6:45 a.m. and I went to get him from his crib and I laid my face over on his and he was burning up! I ran and got the thermometer and took his temp right away.  It was 101.2.  I called the doctor to get an appointment as soon as they opened.

We were able to get an appointment for 11:25.  I got myself ready and then I got Brayden ready.  I felt so sorry for him.  He did not want to eat anything.  The only thing he asked for was a snicker doodle cookie that I had made the night before.  He enjoyed his cookie while watching Mickey Mouse.

Even though the little guy was not feeling well he still managed to smile behind his paci.

My sweet little man

We headed to the doctor to get him checked out.  The nurse checked his weight and temp.  He weighs exactly 27 pounds and when we arrived at the doctor his temp was 101.1. While waiting for the doctor we cuddled up and read a book that we brought with us.  Poor little guy would not raise his head off my chest and barely moved when the doctor came in the room.  He did not feel good at all.

Dr. Voyles came in and we discussed what had been going on with Brayden and then he proceeded to check him out.  He checked his ears and said they looked great.  He listened to his chest and said everything was clear.  Then he had me lay Brayden down on the table and this is when Brayden had a meltdown.  He wanted nothing but his mommy.  The doctor pressed on his tummy to make sure everything was okay there and it was.  Then he took a tongue depressor and checked his throat.  Bless his heart....he gagged and gagged.  I hate when I have to have that done and it was horrible watching it being done to your baby.  Immediately he reached for a swab and swabbed his throat for strep.  He said that his throat was really red.  He said that he would be back in about 10 minutes with the results and that it would either be strep or a virus.

Dr. Voyles came back in and said that it was NOT strep! Thank goodness! He said to just keep him well hydrated and do not force him to eat if he did not want it and to give him Tylenol every 4 hours for fever.

We went home immediately got a bath, took more Tylenol and cuddled up and watched Fresh Beat Band.  He finally took a nap and was still really fussy throughout the rest of the afternoon.  He finally ate some peaches and then some chicken nuggets later on that night.  Then we got him ready for bed and he was out like a light.

I had decided I was going to get up every 3 hours and check on him and I am sure glad I did.  He went to bed around 9 and I got up at midnight and checked his temp and it was 103.2 so I immediately gave him Tylenol and we gave him a lukewarm bath and curled up and watched some TV to see if it was bringing his temp down.  Finally it did and I decided to just put him in bed with me the rest of the night.

During the night the fever went down and then came back up around 5:30.  He woke up at 10 and his fever was normal and it stayed that way until about noon or so. The majority of the day on Tuesday he kept a fever between 99 and 101.8 but he was still in pretty good spirits.  We cuddled up most of the day on Tuesday and was just lazy all day long.  I cannot stand to see him feel bad.  It makes you feel helpless and all I wanted to do was take it from him.  And although I HATED seeing my little man feeling bad, I was secretly loving all this cuddle time with him.

That night he slept with me again and tossed and turned ALL NIGHT LONG! We did not sleep a total of 3 hours.  He would cry out and you could tell he just did not feel good at all. Around midnight his fever got up to 102.8 and so we put him in the bath and bought his temp down and then headed back to bed.  I kept Tylenol in him and checked his temp every 3 hours.

On Wednesday, we had a little better day but he was still a very fussy little boy.  He kept a fever of 99.0 almost all day until he went to bed.  On Thursday morning we woke up fever free and stayed that way all day long!! Thank goodness!! He has ate more today and played with his toys.  He is definitely getting back to his old self and it makes this mommy & daddy (and Brayden) soooo HAPPY!

Fourth of July

I cannot believe the 4th of July has come and gone.  It will be Christmas before we know it.  We had a great 4th!! On Sunday, we got up and got ready and headed to Kentucky to celebrate with my family.

Mommy and Brayden

My whole world!!

Daddy and Brayden

We enjoyed great food, lots of playtime, swimming in the pool and fireworks.  Brayden LOVED them!! We had a little show just for him with the small things on the ground and he was amazed with them.   His favorite was the little poppers you throw on the ground! LOL He could not get enough of them.

Some of the beautiful fireworks we shot off at my moms

On Monday, the 4th, we headed downtown to the riverfront for the fireworks.  This was Brayden's first year watching the fireworks on the river.  Yet again, he was amazed! The fireworks did not bother him at all.  I am so glad he loved them!!

Brayden is 20 months old!!

Whew! I am a little late posting Brayden's 20 month update! It seems unreal that my little baby is 20 months old!! In 4 short months he will be TWO!! We have already started planning his big day!! What can I say I like to get an early start!!

Here is my little man at 20 months!
SMILE Brayden!! :)

Nick and I LOVE this age!! He is sooo much fun and so full of life and energy! He always makes us laugh and loves to put on a show and be the center of attention!

Here are some things that Brayden has been up to this past month!

** At 20 months, he goes to bed at 8pm and when it is 8pm he is ready to go to bed.  This kid loves a schedule and I am so glad he does!

**He is wearing size 4 diapers and wears 18-24 month shirts and shorts although most of them are still big on him and he is wearing 18 month pants.

**He still loves to brush his teeth  and he does a great job of letting you brush them for him before he takes over.  While your brushing his teeth he keeps his mouth open the entire time.  He knows exactly what he is suppose to do.

**He loves bath time.  Since swimming in the pool this year he thinks that the bathtub is his swimming pool.  My entire bathroom is covered in water by the time he gets done!  :)

**At bedtime, he does not go to sleep without blowing mommy kisses.  Those are such sweet moments that I will never forget!  I want to keep him this little forever!

**This little guy LOVES to talk!! I wonder who he might get that from?  One of my favorite things is to have a conversation with him.  He just talks and talks and shakes his head and works his arms and hands.  He really gets into his story telling. :)

Telling his story!

** He is talking more and more.  He also tries to say his name. When I say "Is your name Brayden?", he will say "Bray"  It is so cute!!

**He also tries to count....one...two...three.  He has picked this up because when he goes down for a nap, I will bounce him off the ground three times and say one...two...three and then put him over in his crib.  He loves to do this and laughs every time.

**He can point out several body parts, nose, ears, eyes, etc. and he loves to tell you what a cow says.  He can also tell you several others such as a puppy, duck, etc.

** He LOVES to swim and would stay in the water all day if you would let him.  He is my little water bug!

 SO HAPPY!

 My little water bug!

 splash...splash....splash

**He still has a really good appetite and would live off fruit if you would let him.  I am so glad that he loves fruits and veggies just like his mommy!

**He uses silverware every time he eats although he might still use his hands at times.  He does really good feeding himself his food from his fork.  I also can sit his plate in front of him and never tries to throw his plate.  I am thankful that we have never had a problem with this.

**He does so good at communicating what he wants or doesn't want.  One of the cutest things he says is "no."  If you ask him if he wants something he will turn his little head and say "no" as short as he can.  You just have to hear him say it to understand.  But it is so cute the way he says it.

** I took Brayden to the airport to see the big fighter jets that we had here in town a few weeks ago.  I was upset when the Blue Angels had to cancel.  I was excited to see them again.  But Brayden and I decided to go check these out anyway.  I thought that would scare them because they were SO loud but he loved them and he did NOT want me to put my hands over his ears.  He was so fascinated by them, he gets that from his mommy too! ;)

Watching the planes

Here is a video to show you how close we were to them.  Be sure to have your volume up so you can just get an idea of how loud they were!

**He loves to swing outside.  He has been so hot here lately that we do not want to leave the house, but we will go out early in the morning and swing a little before it gets to hot!

He will also take wagon rides around the neighborhood after daddy gets off work and it cools down!

**He mocks everything I do.  I was putting deodorant on the other day and put it back in the drawer and he proceeded to get in the drawer get out my deodorant and act like he was putting it on.  He looked up at me with this huge smile on his face.  It was so cute!

**He LOVES to play angry birds on the iPad and he knows exactly what he needs to do.  He amazes me.  He also loves to bowl and play with his Scout ABC Garden.

**He loves to help mommy in the kitchen! He loves to stir so anytime he wants to help out, and he can, I will let him.

I guess that is all for this month. I will leave you with a few more pictures of my little man!!

 My handsome little man!

Have a great weekend!
