As you all know Olivia Kate has arrived!! Our beautiful baby girl was born on September 20, 2012 at 11:20 a.m. weighing 7lbs 5oz and 20 inches long with a head full of dark hair! She is so gorgeous and absolutely perfect!!
She fits into our little family just perfect and she has blessed our lives so much in the short amount of time she has been here. We cannot imagine our life without her! She is so sweet!
I may always be behind in posting now that two sweet babies have all my attention, but I promise to post as often as I can. I started this blog when I found out I was pregnant with Brayden and I have continued it through my pregnancy with Olivia so I plan to continue it as often as I can to document her growth and all the updates on Brayden. So far I’m failing miserably with all my postings but I am trying to play catch up. I want to keep this blog up and going so that all of our friends and family that keeps up with us can watch both of our babies grow and keep up with our family. I plan to post a blog on almost everything since her birth so be checking back for lots of updates!
Let's go back to September 20, 2012!!
That morning we woke up and got ready to go to the hospital. I did not sleep very well that night because I was so anxious about what was to come and I was also so excited to meet our little girl!! We had to be there at 9 so I got up first and let Nick and Brayden sleep. I got up, got a shower and started to get ready. I was unable to eat so I was starving but more than anything I just wanted a DRINK! I could not drink anything until after my c-section so it was almost 2pm before they would even give me water! Anyway, once Brayden and Nick got up we got Brayden ready and made sure all his stuff was ready to go so he could stay with my mom while we were in the hospital. I am thankful for my little boy because he kept me busy that morning and took my mind off of the actual c-section.
My mom and step dad came to our house before going to the hospital. We got Brayden's things all loaded up and before I knew it, it was time to leave for the hospital. I was so nervous this time around and I am not sure why. Maybe it was because I knew what to expect this time and for some reason that seem to make it worse. Nick, Brayden and I made it to the hospital along with my family a little before 9am. We met my dad at the hospital and Nick's mom, brother and my brother all arrived a little later.
When we arrived at the hospital they got me all checked in and immediately took me back to triage to prep me for the c-section. Nick and I went back while my family waited in the waiting area. They took me back to a room where they would prep me for my section. I remember last time it was a little overwhelming because several of the nurses were working on me, each doing a different thing all at once. They had to start my I.V., hook my belly up to the monitors, clean my belly, take my blood, put on those gorgeous compression socks and they were all doing this while another nurse was asking me all kinds of questions regarding my health, pregnancy, etc. I was trying to focus on those questions but I couldn't quite focus because at the same time the nurse was asking the questions I had a nurse trying to start my I.V. I am not sure if she was new or what but she had the worse time starting my I.V. I was bleeding everywhere and I started to get really sick and light headed. I told the nurse that I had to stop with the questions because I was feeling so sick and I thought I was going to pass out. They laid me completely back and got a cold, wet washcloth and placed it on my forehead. One of the nurses sat with me and kept talking to me and tried to calm me down. I have to say that all of my nurses were so nice and so helpful! I could not have asked for any better nurses throughout my entire stay in the hospital. They were amazing!!
As soon as she finished my I.V and I was finished with all the questions they had to ask, my family was able to come in and wait with Nick and I. I was so happy to see Brayden. He took my mind off of everything and made me feel so much better!
The anesthesiologist had me scoot all the way back on the table and lean over into the nurse. He told me that he was going to give me something in my IV to regulate my blood pressure. After he gave me the medicine in my IV he started pressing on my back to administer the spinal. He gave me the numbing medicine in my back and before I knew it he had everything done and they were laying me back on the table. They got everything ready and washed off my belly and then Nick was allowed to come in to be with me. By the time he came in I was shaking and I was so hot! When I first went in the OR it was freezing and then all of a sudden I was burning up. I am sure it was a mixture between nerves and the medicine that gave me but I did not feel like that with my section with Brayden. Before I knew it they were starting the c-section. Nick held my hand and kept talking to me, telling me that I was doing great. I was still shaking uncontrollably. I was so nervous but this was more than nerves. This c-section was so different than the one with Brayden. I felt more during the entire c-section than I did with the one with Brayden and I also felt like they were pulling me off the table when they were getting her out and as they were closing. I never felt any of that with Brayden. It wasn't a bad experience just very different than the first.
Before we knew it our baby girl was born! After she was born she started crying and it was the sweetest cry ever and I started bawling. Dr Cave let me see her around the curtain. She was perfect!!
Nick left me and went to be with her and take pictures while they finished me up.
After a few minutes she was all cleaned up and ready to meet her mommy!! I was so happy to see my baby girl. She was beautiful!
Time seem to fly by and before I knew it I was being wheeled into the recovery room where I was able to hold Olivia for the first time. She was so perfect and beautiful and she looks just like her big brother!! I also see alot of myself in her when I was a baby. They continued to monitor me for the next hour. Nick was able to go and bring Brayden in so he could see her for the first time and we could spend a little time together as a family of four before anyone else came to see her. Of course he loved her, he kept saying "It's baby" I am not sure that he quite knew what was going on but he did love on her and kissed her. It was so sweet!
Little Miss Olivia was having a real hard time with her blood sugar so they took her on to the nursery where they gave her her first bath, got her temp up and monitored her blood sugar.
Before long they came to get me and wheeled me to my actual room. After they got me into my bed and I was all settled Nick left to go and find everyone and check on Olivia. Mike, my step dad came in and sat with me while we waited and all of a sudden Nick comes in with Olivia. I was so happy to see her. Everyone came in to visit and everyone took turns holding this sweet little bundle!
We learned not long after she was able to come in the room with us that she would have to continuously have her blood sugar monitored over the next several hours which went on even into the next day because her blood sugar was not leveling out as it should. We could not keep her blood sugar up no matter what we tired. They told us to try and make sure she ate a certain amount and we had to make sure that her blood was drawn at a certain time every so many hours. Bless her heart, her little heels were stuck so many times they were bruised and it got to the point that when it came time to draw her blood that they would take her little band aids off and they were able to get the blood from the prior stick from the time before. I felt so sorry for her but I knew it was best. Even though she was eating what she should as often as she should her blood sugar was not what it should be and we had two different pediatricians on her case. It got to the point that they were talking about putting her in the NICU because her blood sugar was getting so low and we could not regulate it. I was in tears. I did not want to have to put her in the NICU and not be able to see her whenever I wanted! Finally after several prayers and a few more calls to the pediatrician, more feedings and blood sticks her blood sugar was finally starting to work itself out and that meant no NICU! Thank goodness!
I failed to get pictures of everyone with Olivia but here are a few pictures of Olivia's first few days.

We are so overjoyed with our new baby girl. She is just perfect! She is such a good little baby and a great little sleeper. She hardly ever cries unless she is hungry or needs to be changed. She is such an easy baby just like her big brother was. We are so blessed with two happy, healthy little ones! Check back often for more updates soon to come!!
